Context:
You are a strategic analyst for a management consulting firm that specialises in the analysis of Australian organisations. Your task is to write a report based on a case study of an Australian corporation. You are to use the framework models of strategic management, in order to evaluate the environment the organisation operates within and its mission, goals and strategic choices.Additionally, you will provide some recommendations that both support and critique the strategic direction the organisation has chosen to pursue.

Lorna Jane Pty Ltd
Lorna Jane is both a manufacturer and retailer of women’s activewear. The founders of this company started in Brisbane in 1998 initially under the company name Lorna Jane Exercise. Although still essentially an Australian company they now have regional offices in the US, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore. With increasing national and international competition in the fitness apparel industry and the challenges of the Covid on retail companies, this organisation will need to navigate carefully through their strategic planning to steer them successfully into the future.

Osiris Holdings Pty Ltd, trading as David Jones
David Jones, an original Australian icon, have undergone significant ownership changes and strategic direction changes recently. Most of these strategies are currently playing out and the organisation aims to increase its retail footprint and its relevance in the Australian Retail market. Given the current local and global challenges, their recent ownership changes and their Australian profile in the hearts and minds of Australia, their strategic direction is now more important than ever.
BHP Group Limited
This Australian owned Public Company (first in the top 2000 Australian companies) extracts and process metals, minerals, coal, iron ore and petroleum products within Australia. A large component of the company’s market is in export which makes them vulnerable to changes in the international demand for their products. Their strategy includes very specific direction on their sustainability footprint and to continuously negotiate international support for their exports.
To prepare for this assessment, the following steps are advised:
➢ Step 1 – Read the subject materials for modules 1 to 4 (weeks 1 to 8).
➢ Step 2 – Decide which ONE of the three organisations you will choose as the case study for your report by reading the relevant parts of their websites, annual reports and other media sources.
➢ Step 3 – Undertake additional research on the organisation and its industry as well as source-relevant academic journal articles that will help you in writing your report.
