interview data and data sourced from databases, websites and annual reports.

You must conduct one interview with a manager and one interview with an employee within the organisation who was involved in the change. Interviews can be conducted in person, via phone, email or video call. You will then need to critically analyse the data with reference to the recent academic literature and the theories, ideas and concepts covered in the course. Part of this will include discussing what the
organisation has done well in accordance to the literature and also what they have not done well.You will make informed and relevant recommendations to the organisation and provide future solutions for effective change management within the organisation.

Outcomes:-
This assessment will effectively demonstrate your capacity to:
1.analyse and critically evaluate organisational change practices and issues which relate to any of the HRM functions
2. plan and undertake an independent research project 
3. integrate connections between scholarly ideas, concepts and theories and professional preparation by applying relevant tools, techniques and solutions to practical workplace problems

The report you produce may also have important implications for your targeted organisation. Further more, with permission from the organisation, a copy of your de-identified report can be included in your career/e-portfolio.

Length:- The report should be 2,500 words in length +/- 10% (excluding reference list). The focus is on quality over quantity. It is best to avoid repetition and be clear and concise in the points you are making.Please note that the following are excluded from the word count: table of contents,reference list and appendices.

Working in pairs :
1.All students will be required to advise whether they are working on their own or in a pair via the following form by 3:00 pm Monday 6 December You must do this even if you are working by yourself.

2.Given the size and weighting of this assessment students can choose the option of working in pairs. Working with a partner may assist in time management and workload allocation and can aid in the development of a host of skills that are increasingly important in the professional workplace. However, you may also choose to work individually if you prefer.

3.If searching for a partner, students should spend time thinking about what factors are important to them. Students may wish to form a pair based on commonalities such as: topic organisational industry interest; time availability; work family study personal commitments; goals for the course; etc.

4.There will also be an opportunity to form pairs during the workshop sessions and also via the following Discussion Board

5.If working in pairs, the mark awarded will apply to both students however in exceptional circumstances, the convener may have cause to award different marks to individuals. Any major issues should first be addressed within the pair and then, if required, brought to the attention of the Convenor in a timely manner.

6.Students should be aware that personal circumstances can change and some students may withdraw from this course for various reasons. If a student withdraws from the course then the remaining student will be required to complete the assessment as an individual.

Identify a Suitable Organisation
1.Not all organisations are receptive to students undertaking a project in their organisation because they are busy and may like to keep their affairs confidential.Therefore,it can be preferable to identify an organisation through a personal contact (via a friend, relative, colleaguge) who is willing to act as contact person.

3.You need to select an organisation or department division of an organisation.While small organisations can be suitable for this project, it is often preferable (but not compulsory) to select a medium to large organisation (around 50 employees or more) where a range of HRM processes can be operating. The organisation does not necessarily need to have an HR department or staff. The focus is on analysing their
performance of HR functions (e.g. training development; recruitment selection performance management; rewards and motivation; health, safety and well being;diversity; negotiation; industrial relations) some of which managers or supervisors may be performing (please focus your attention on one or two of these areas if they are clearly interconnected)
4.The organisation could be a in the public (government) or private sector, for profit or non-profit. Examples of such organisations are banks,government departments, hotels restaurants, supermarket chains, retailers, etc. Alternatively you may wish to find an organisation aligned to your future professional interests.If you are unsure, please confirm with your tutor the suitability of the organisation you have in mind.

Approach a Suitable Organisation
i. Once you identify the organisation, you need to approach a representative of the organisation who deals with external relations. This could be the owner, head of the department, public relations officer, personnel/ human resources manager, administration manager etc.

Students must provide the interviewees with a copy of the ‘Information Sheet’ and receive a signed ‘Consent Form’ from each interviewee. To carry out this research project, you need to collect a range of data. The order in which you collect
this information may vary.

A. Organisational data: You will gather information on the organisation’s history and background, its external environment, its current HRM activities,and general organisation of these activities.The source of this data may include, but is not limited to, databases, presentations, proposal, websites, annual reports and part of the interview.

B.Interview data: You must conduct one interview with a manager and one interview with an employee within the organisation who was involved in the change.Interviews can be conducted in person, via phone, email or Skype.The focus of the interview should be on collecting information relating to their experiences of the organisational change process, issues problems challenges,and their recommendations for improvement.Remember this assessment is about how well the process of change was planned for, implemented and monitored evaluated. The duration of the interview will need to be negotiated with the organisation but generally should not exceed one hour in length.

C.Review of literature: To assist in focusing your interview, you should aim to review the academic literature and the theories, ideas and concepts covered in the course. Scholarly material includes but is not limited to peer reviewed journal articles and books. The articles provided at the end of each relevant chapter may be a useful starting point but please ensure you are using sources which are current (i.e.
published within the last 10 years). Your final report should include research of at least eight items of scholarly literature published. Given that this requirement is quite low, it is highly recommended that you review the scholarly material more comprehensively and read more than eight articles. It is recommended that you use the Griffith library catalogue to access scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles.You may also find Google Scholar useful. Please review the support resource link below for more information on what constitutes scholarly material and how to find it.

1.Engage in an analysis and critical evaluation of the change program or process (from your primary and secondary research) against scholarly ideas, theories, concepts and other industry material .For example, discuss what the organisation has done well in accordance to the literature and what is going on in the industry and also what they have not done well in relation to planning for, implementing and monitoring evaluating the change.What is important is the demonstration of your ability to critically analyse the change process that is being investigated.This section goes beyond simple summary and description and requires an analytical approach to the problem/s or issue/s, indicating that the student has under stood the problem/s or issue/s and can make useful links between theory and practice.

2.TIP 1: Remember what this assessment is about. The focus is on how well the change process was managed (e.g. planning, implementing, monitored/evaluated). It’s also not really about evaluating whether the change was a good idea or not. It’s more so on how well or poorly the change process played out.

3.TIP 2: As a starting point you might consider using Kotter’s eight steps or Lewin’s change model to assist you in this. It’s not compulsary but may be helpful. Then you need to find some more recent research to help you strengthen your analysis further.
