According to EYLF (Department of Education and Training [DET], 2019, p.11) five main different theoretical perspectives:
Theoretcial Perspectives, Leadership And Pedagogical Documentation:
1.Discuss the different theoretical perspectives[pg 18 week 3 lecture] and discuss what are the theorists that back up the theories.
Please read recommended textbook: Walker, R., & Dobson, M. (2022). Planning the curriculum. In B. Gobby, & R. Walker (Eds.), Powers of curriculum: Sociological aspects of education (2nded.) (pp.51-123). Oxford University Press.
E.g Socio-Behaviourist: Pavlov, Skinner and Bandura advocated for this theory.
E.g Critical theories: Freire advocated for this theory.
2.How is pedagogical and leadership documentation[lecture week 4] used to shape early childhood curriculum design in Australia
E.g. pedagogical documentations help support observations of children’s thinking/ideas feelings. A research tool born within the educational project of Reggio Emilia and explored in early childhood educational contexts internationally. It can also be defined as visible listening and a democratic attitude.
Discuss how EYLF and NQS documents influenced by these theoretical perspectives or how do they support the implementation of these theories. E.g. The developmental theories focuses on the educator’s understanding and documenting the child’s development which then supports curriculum development. The EYLF supports such theory when implemented with practical and careful implications…blah and under standing each child is unique etc.
What is the curriculum outcome/impact of the theories
i. E.g DAP is an outcome of Developmental theories. Do we use this in Australia? yes/no and why
ii.E.g Social – behaviourist theories influences teacher-directed approach to curriculum. Do we use this in Australia?
iii.E.g Critical theories allows use to critique or “exposes” curriculums like the hidden curriculum [week 2].
What is the current view(good/bad)?
A.Any criticisms E.g. Developmental theories
B.Any changing beliefs? [e.g lecture 1.]
Using your pedagogy support your discussions(analysis) above [week2, 3, 4, 5]. Child Australia. (n.d.). What is pedagogy?: How does it influence our practice?
